Who is Sam McCracken?

                               

 

Samuel McCracken is an award-winning Queer & Trans Illustrator, Artist, Educator and Community practitioner based in Shropshire, West Midlands, UK.

He has recently completed his Master's Degree in Digital and Visual Communication, holds a First Class Honours Degree in Illustration, and a dad to 5 cats,  Bean, Bella, Buddy, Binkx and Marmalade. 

Academically, Sam explores his identity as a Queer person, highlighting LGBTQIA+ rights, Kink, Fetish and cruising cultures (not the boat kind!), striving to understand Queer intimacy within the visual arts. With this, he questions what Illustration is and just how far that title can be pushed, working with traditional and digital illustration methods, and sculpture, both traditional and 3D printing.

In the community, Sam delivers creative arts workshops, consults on Kink Aware topics, runs an arts market, is setting up a Trans+ Inclusive alternative to Guides, and continues to exhibit his illustrations and sculptures wherever possible.

He has won several community awards, including, UK Trans Changemaker 2026 with Trans in the City, Excellence in Art from the University of Wolverhampton 2024, and the Esther Opemipo Shonibare Award for Championing Diversity with the Wolverhampton Students Union 2024, and placed 2nd overall at The Art of Trans Joy competition with Trans in the City in 2025. He was also a finalist in the Role Model of the Year: Student category with The Queer Student Awards 2024 and has judged the Queer Student Awards in 2025 and 2026.

He completed an Artist in
Residence with the Royal Wolverhampton Hospital Trust Charity in 2024, exploring and proving the Spectrum of Gender Identity/Expression.

His artwork has been published in a children's book, My Brother Born Sleeping (2023), raising money for Red Nose Charities globally, which has recently won an Excellence in Children's Literature from the International Purple Dragonfly Awards, and in Zines such as "Pump Ass Not Gas" for the Fossil Free campiagn supported by the People and Planet Network.

His artwork has also been exhibited internationally, in New York, Paris and Tokyo with The Holy Art Gallery.
